Homemade Peppermint Patties Recipe
Mmm, peppermint patties. These delicious little snacks seem to pop up in the stores around the holidays, and, boy, are they good. But if you’ve ever seen the ingredients list on some of the packaged patties, you already know that peppermint patties aren’t the healthiest dessert. That is, until these homemade peppermint patties came onto the scene!
How to Make the Peppermint Patty Healthy
They might sound difficult to make, but homemade peppermint patties are actually quite simple to whip up at home. And trust me, you’ll want to make these yourself! While they’re still a treat, you can feel a lot better about eating these peppermint patties than the stuff you buy in the store.
These peppermint patties have only four ingredients, and you can feel good about eating them — no mysterious artificial flavor here! Instead, we’ll use just coconut oil, Manuka honey, dark chocolate and peppermint extract or oil.
Is there a difference between peppermint oil and peppermint extract? In fact, there is. Peppermint oil is more concentrated than an extract, so you won’t need as much to get a strong peppermint flavor. Here, you’ll use just 10 drops of the oil or 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract.
Nutrition Facts
I just love how these peppermint patties are made from all-natural ingredients that you likely have on hand already. Here’s what you need to know about these nutritious ingredients before indulging in this decadent after-dinner treat.
Coconut oil: One of my favorite kitchen and household ingredients, the coconut oil in this peppermint patty recipe adds the smooth creaminess you want. Its natural saturated fat content also helps prevent heart disease and lowers bad cholesterol.
Manuka honey: Honey is good, but Manuka honey is even better. It’s a type of honey that’s produced in New Zealand from bees who pollinate the Manuka bush, and it’s seriously packed with health benefits. It’s full of anti-inflammatory properties. Plus, as a natural sweetener, it adds flavor to your favorite dishes without sending your blood sugar into a frenzy.
Too pricey for your taste? Then use raw honey that features many of the same benefits.
Peppermint: This oil is great for things like focus, improving digestion, reducing nausea and giving you an energy boost. While you might not get all these benefits from the peppermint patties, you can definitely keep the leftover peppermint oil for other uses!
Dark chocolate: Finally, dark chocolate is loaded with antioxidants that can help protect you from disease-causing free radicals and improve heart health.
How to Make Paleo Peppermint Patties
Start by mixing together the coconut oil, honey and peppermint extract/oil in a large bowl.
Place the mixture into the silicone mold by the spoonful and freeze for 20 to 30 minutes.
While the mixture is freezing, melt the chocolate in a double boiler over medium heat.
Remove the coconut oil mix from the molds. Put the melted chocolate in a bowl for dipping.
Then, with a spoon or fork, submerge the coconut oil squares into the chocolate one by one.
Resist the urge to eat the peppermint patties at this stage!
Once all of the coconut oil squares are covered in melted chocolate, place them on a baking sheet and freeze for 20 to 30 minutes.

Before serving, allow the peppermint patties to reach room temperature (about one to two minutes).
Then pile the patties high on a plate and serve. These make an awesome snack or after-dinner dessert. Enjoy!
